About the Author
I’ve been an artist of some kind or another my entire life. From my early days in New York, I starting with writing songs and rhymes in school and moved on to writing graffiti on walls. Then I was breaking and dancing, spending countless nights exploring Manhattan nightclubs and the artsy scene. I can tell you that during the late eighties to early nineties, I was deeply involved in or somehow close to the action in the beginning of the New Jack Swing music movement. I lived in the same small town of Mount Vernon, New York, where many music and entertainment people came from.
My mom’s house was a few blocks away from the home where Art Carney, who played Ed Norton on the original Honeymooners TV sitcom grew up. Denzel Washington also grew up and started the Boys and Girls Club of America in my hometown. R&B singing sensation, Al B. Sure!, and the late rapper Heavy D were good friends of mine and they also lived a stone’s throw away from where I did.
To be honest, there are too many names of important people from the sports or entertainment industry to list and stay on the subject of this book, so I’ll move on. I can tell you if you ever get the chance to visit my old high school, Mt. Vernon High School on California Road in Westchester, New York, there is a hallway that has a Wall of Fame with pictures of most of the people who came from and or grew up there. It was a place that seemed like everybody was doing something artistic. If I wasn’t part of the movement directly, I was always somewhere around it.
